For three wonderful days we traveled with our daughter Johanna and her 3 younger kids and new puppy Tilly from Rochester up into the Adirondack Mountains past the chain lakes and north of Raquette Lake to a little-known relatively undeveloped body of water known as Forked Lake tucked away just before one gets to Long Lake. After driving back in several miles on remote roads and finally a meandering dirt road we arrived at the NYS campgrounds there, complete with a launching area near the western end of the lake. We signed in, unloaded our equipment and supplies near the dock, then packed our canoes and paddled several miles back into the lake where we found our remote campsite, complete with dock, picnic table, and fireplace all ready to receive us. We set up camp, tramped and paddled around, went for a chilly swim, cooked out and had some delicious meals, and generally enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, complete with campfire and ‘Smores. There were some chilly sprinkles but no troublesome adventures. All sunshine and smooth paddling on our way out with stops in the village of Long Lake and here and there along the way on our way out. Here’s a slideshow, just for fun:
